Privacy notice — photos and face reading
This notice explains what happens to a photo you use on GLOSARY. It is written for the United Kingdom and follows the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. GLOSARY is the data controller for the processing described here.
What is processed
The photo you upload, or the frame you capture with your camera.
Measurements taken from that photo — the outline of your face, eyes, brows and lips, and the colour of your skin, lips and eyes. Measuring facial features in this way is biometric data, which UK law treats as a special category of personal data.
Where it happens
Face reading stays on your device. The face model runs inside this browser. Your photo is not uploaded, and we never receive it.
AI try-on is different. If you press AI try-on, your photo is uploaded to Higgsfield, our image generation provider, so the finished look can be rendered and sent back to you. Higgsfield processes it on its own servers, which may be outside the United Kingdom. We ask for that consent separately.
Our server keeps a short-lived count of AI try-on requests, stored against a one-way hash of your internet address, for up to one hour. It exists only to stop the service being abused, and it is not used to identify you.
What we store
We hold no accounts and no database of users. Your saved looks, preferences and the record of your consent are stored in your own browser and never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.
Your lawful basis and your control
We rely on your explicit consent (UK GDPR Article 9(2)(a)) to process biometric data. Consent is optional, and the face chart works without it. You can withdraw consent at any time using the button below, which stops any further processing. Withdrawing does not affect anything already done while consent was in place.
You have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to processing, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. Because we store nothing on our servers, an erasure request is usually satisfied by clearing your browser data.
